A Day At Pearl Harbor
December 7, 1941 has been called “the day that will live in infamy.” On an otherwise peaceful morning on the island of Oahu, the Japanese initiated a surprise attack. The sound of gunfire and bombs was deafening, killing thousands of American sailors and soldiers. Among the slain were the 1,177 men aboard the U.S.S. Arizona battleship. They had no time to escape when a bomb hit the ship, causing it to sink. The wreck was not salvaged. It continues to lie at the bottom of the harbor as a memorial to the brave men who lost their lives. This tour offers life footage from that tragic day, along with live, historical narration from an expert guide. You’ll then board the Navy Shuttle to see the Arizona Memorial and to witness the oil that continues to leak from the wreckage, often referred to as the black tears of the Arizona.
Explore the USS Missouri Battleship, one of the world’s most impressive battleships. As you tour the ship, you’ll be taken back in time as you look upon the ship’s massive guns and see the place where the surrender of World War II happened. You’ll also get the opportunity to view the U.S. Pacific Fleet Headquarters and see the striking Pacific Aviation Museum with the help of an expert guide. Finish the day off with lunch at the museum’s delicious Blue Heaven Café.
