Learn to surf Maui with highly trained and experienced professionals who love what they do!  Goofy Foot Surf School was established in Lahaina in 1994 and since then has successfully taught over seventy-five thousand surfing students.  In fact, Goofy Foot guarantees that you will ride at least one wave in your two-hour lesson or your money back!

A two hour beginner introductory lesson is available to virtually everyone and there are few limitations with regard to age, weight, height, or swimming ability.  Group class sizes range between 1 to 5 students per instructor and students are outfitted with surfing booties, rash-guard shirts, and beginner soft longboards. 

The first half-hour of the lesson is spent on the beach in front of the Goofy Foot shop.  There, instructors will focus on paddling, negotiating the surf zone, timing and catching waves, four fundamental surf stances, board maneuvering, stopping, and even wiping out.  Through years of experience, Goofy Foot knows that a good beach lesson almost always translates into a good water lesson.  In fact, over 30% of our students stand up on their first wave!

The remainder of the lesson is spent in the water, where students are supervised at all times by instructors holding Red Cross certifications in first aid and CPR.  The instructor paddles with students and teaches them to maintain their position in a moving body of water.  Students progress according to their own abilities, learning to orient themselves to the surf zone.  Upon graduation, students are awarded an official Beginner Surfer Diploma.
