Hawaiian Feast In Paradise Tour
Spend three hours visiting and eating in Honolulu’s top restaurants for Hawaiian cuisine. This evening event is for people who love good food in an intimate atmosphere. Attire for the evening is casual eveningwear. Instead of fighting the traffic on your own, you will be transported around the city in a private coach. You will not only enjoy incredible cuisine, but you will learn how different foods fit into the history of Hawaii.
When the first people arrived on the Hawaiian Islands, there were few edible plants. But these seafaring Polynesians were farmers, and they introduced more than 30 plants to the island to grow food. Poi made from the plant taro was the staple of their diet. They also ate quite a bit of sweet potatoes and yams. Their meat mostly came from the sea, and later Polynesian adventurers learned to travel with their own livestock — pigs and chickens. Today Hawaii’s cuisine is a fusion representing many cultures, including American, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Polynesian, and Portuguese.
Favorites of this event have included kalua pork, slow-roasted pork rubbed with sea salt and liquid smoke; lomi salmon, salmon cured with Hawaiian salt and then cooked with onion, tomatoes, and pineapple; laulau, butterfish with either pork, beef, or chicken wrapped in taro leaves and steamed; and haupia, a traditional desert made with coconut milk. And there will, of course, be poi.
At the end of the evening, we will make one last stop for desert to meet the needs of your sweet tooth. You will go home both satisfied and enlightened in Hawaiian history.
