Hawaii has got great beaches, fabulous waves, and beautiful tropical vegetation. But our islands also feature a natural phenomenon that you certainly don’t find everywhere, namely volcanoes. On this tour we will visit Kapoho and Kalapana, two towns that were destroyed by lava from Kilauea volcano in 1960 and 1990, respectively, and have, besides a few exceptions, not been resettled. We will also take you to the Kaimu black sand beach, which was also buried under lava in 1990.

Marvel at Kilauea’s most active vent with its smoke plume and check out brand new lava fields and streams. Our ride will take you along a breathtaking coastline and to a coastal state park that is as haunted as it is beautiful! Have you ever felt the warm water in a geothermal water pond? We will stroll through Lava Tree State Park near Hilo where hollow lava tubes show where once trees stood. This park is a fascinating display of the island’s volcanic history!

And if you are up for it, we invite you to a hike on a trail running through a lava tube. This trip is the ultimate discover tour when it comes to Hawaii’s volcanoes and you, too, will be amazed by the ever-changing history and landscape you are about to encounter.  Nowhere in the world is the interplay between fire and water more fascinating than in Hawaii and with this tour you will discover for yourself the geographical powers that are at work in this fascinating region. Do not miss out on this exploration tour with a most knowledgeable local guide. We at Big Island Excapes know this area better than anyone else, so trust us with your volcano adventure and book your tour today!
