World War Ii Start To End Oahu Historic Tour
Learn the history of that infamous date, December 7, 1941. It was on this day that Japan pilots brought a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, leaving death and destruction in their wake. Thousands of American seamen fell that day, including the 1,177 men on board the battleship USS Arizona. Commissioned in 1916 and active in World War I, the USS Arizona was on its way to the Pacific Fleet’s general headquarters when a bomb from a Japanese aircraft hit the ship. All the men on board were trapped as saltwater rushed inside the ship. The ship was never recovered. The USS Arizona Memorial now stands as a remembrance of the men who still rest with their ship on the harbor floor.
Aboard the Navy shuttle, you’ll get a view of the USS Arizona Memorial and the opportunity to see the black tears of the Arizona, referring to the oil that continues to trickle from the hulking hull. At the end of the memorial, you will also get to see the shrine room, which is dedicated to the 1,177 men stranded on the vessel as it went down. Historical narration from an expert guide will provide in-depth detail of the attack. Additionally, you’ll see the official Pearl Harbor film, which shows rare live footage of the event.
Afterward, you’ll board the “Might Mo,” or the USS Missouri. One of the world’s most extraordinary battleships, the USS Missouri boasts enormous guns.
